Six tips for your first triathlon season

Sechs Tipps für Deine erste Triathlonsaison

Autumn is the time when the triathlon season slowly comes to an end. This is the time to start planning for next year. Maybe you already have your first race in mind or maybe you're just thinking about starting your first triathlon in 2026.

The quieter months are ideal for laying the foundations, developing routines and setting yourself realistic goals. With our tips, you can already lay the foundations for a successful first season.

Set yourself realistic goals

Set yourself a realistic, achievable goal. The Ironman is booming. Everywhere you read about long distances and impressive finishes. But especially as a beginner, you don't have to swim 3.8 kilometers, cycle 180 kilometers and run a marathon. Triathlon thrives on its variety. For starters, a sprint or Olympic distance is ideal for gaining experience and developing a taste for competition. You will get to know the processes, find your rhythm and get a feel for what excites you.

Give your training structure

You don't need a complicated training plan, but a little routine helps enormously. Plan fixed sessions, for example swimming twice, running twice and cycling twice a week.
This will help you develop a rhythm and get closer to your goal step by step.

Technique before speed

Especially in swimming, it pays to work on your technique now. A clean water position and an efficient arm stroke will help you progress faster in the long term than swimming mile after mile with poor technique.
With our equipment such as pullbuoys, paddles or fins, you can work on your technique in a targeted manner.

Consistency over perfection

Start slowly, keep at it and take small steps forward. Over-motivation often leads to injury or fust if the load increases too quickly. Consistency is key: Don't worry if you miss a session. The important thing is to keep going and maintain your rhythm.

Don't forget regeneration

Train hard, recover harder. Progress is made during recovery after the stimulus, not during training. Make sure you get enough restful sleep, eat well and take conscious breaks. This is the only way you will improve sustainably.

Have fun

The most important thing: enjoy the journey. Find training partners, try out new routes and enjoy every little improvement.
